Over time, we have learned to love and hate video game characters. Through playing each of their respective video games, we all have our favourite, least favourite and most iconic characters. So, who made the cut for DLG Computers’s Top 10 Video Game Characters?
In this list, we will be including some classic characters as well as some more recent video game characters. Read our list below and tell us what you think!
- Mario and Luigi
Perhaps the most iconic video game character of all time, Mario has over the years taken us on a number of amazing adventures all over the Mushroom Kingdom and beyond. When he isn’t rescuing Princess Peach from the clutches of Bowser, he indulges in all kinds of other activates like Golf, Tennis, Kart Racing and even the Olympics!
We also couldn’t forget his brother Luigi, so he also gets an honourable mention here, as he always has his brother’s back throughout their many adventures.
- Sonic the Hedgehog
Since his debut in 1991, Sonic the Hedgehog has constantly sped onto our TV’s with lightning speed and joined by his trustee sidekicks Knuckles and Tails, they have been thwarting the plans of world domination from Doctor Robotnik/Eggman. Whilst the recent Sonic games have not followed the path of the classics, we still love Sonic the Hedgehog.
- Crash Bandicoot & Spyro the Dragon
With Crash Bandicoot, there is never a dull moment. He is a fun character who is always on an adventure, ready to stop his creator, Dr Neo Cortex, who is always cooking up another way to take over the world.
Spyro and his loveable friend Sparx the Dragonfly are much the same. When any of the baby dragons are in danger of being stolen or his land is in danger, Spyro jumps into action, ready to burn whoever is in his way
For many, Crash and Spyro were the first games we played, so for that, they earn a spot on this list.
- Pikachu
When it comes to the Pokémon franchise, there is no-one more recognisable than Pikachu. Having been the star of many of his own games, and appearing on our TV’s with his Trainer Ash, he has become the face of the Pokémon brand.
Anytime Pokémon is mentioned, you can bet that the first thing people think, is probably Pikachu.
- Link
The Hero of Time from the Legend of Zelda series, Link has become one of Nintendo’s most recognised characters. Traveling across Hyrule with his trusty horse Epona, he is always ready to save the Princess Zelda from the evil clutches of Ganon and his minions.
Having starred in what many consider being some of the best games of all time, Link is more than deserving of a place on this list.
- Cloud Strife
Mainly recognised from his appearance in Final Fantasy VII. Cloud has become, probably the most recognisable character in the entire Final Fantasy universe. He might be quiet and often misunderstood, but together with his Buster Sword, he is an unstoppable force to be reckoned with, and he certainly isn’t going to let Sephiroth get away.
Final Fantasy VII is considered to be one of the best RPG’s of all time, and for that, and the fact that we are all excited for the new Remake in 2018/19, Cloud gets a spot on this list.
- Sora
Sora, from the Kingdom Hearts series has become a hit with Disney fans and RPG fans alike. With his story continuing with the upcoming Kingdom Hearts 3, his story is deep and immersive and is still growing. When Sora, Kairi and Riku all split up in the first Kingdom Hearts, who would’ve thought that they would end up being the most important pieces to the universe?
We here at DLG Computers cannot wait for Kingdom Hearts 3 later this year!
- John ‘Soap’ MacTavish
Part of the British Special Air Service and the Bravo Team, Soap was a main character for the first 2 Modern Warfare games and briefly in the 3rd. He was an extremely fun character to play and his story arc is great, all the way up to his unfortunate end.
- Ezio Auditore De Firenze
From the moment you start Assassin’s Creed 2, we live and experience the development of the brilliant character that is Ezio Auditore. From the young man who watches the death of his father and two brothers to the master Assassin who does as he pleases, Ezio is certainly a legendary character.
- Master Chief
When it comes to video game legends, there aren’t many much more popular than Master Chief from Halo. With Spartan 117 in the mist of all the action, every Halo game with Master Chief was a great adventure. Almost every mission seemed impossible but he never failed.
